Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient will join the Leibniz Association

As of January 1, 2017 Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin will join the Leibniz Association. The final decision was taken by the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz) on June 24, 2016. The Centre´s international profile and its focus on non-European developments will contribute to the Association’s profile regarding global issues. ZMO’s admission is based on a positive evaluation by the German Council of Science and Humanities as well as by a positive statement by the senate of the Leibniz Association. Please find more information in our press release.

Andrea Fleschenberg dos Ramos Pinéu currently works as DAAD Long Term Guest Professor at Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. She received her habilitation (post-doctoral qualification) from the University of Cologne and her PhD from the University of Erfurt, Germany. Previously she taught as Guest Lecturer at the University of Cologne, Germany; University of Peshawar, Department of Political Science (2014), Punjab University (HEC Visiting Professor, 2007), Pakistan; University Jaume I, Castellon (Spain, Chair for Peace Philosophy, 2006) and worked as a lecturer and research fellow at a number of German Universities...

Expert talk and discussion with Nushin Atmaca (ZMO) and Christian Kübler (BGSMCS)

The German Arab Friendship Association (DAFG) and ZMO invite to an expert talk and a following discussion on the basics of Islam by ZMO fellow Nushin Atmaca and Christian Kübler, fellow at the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies. The event takes place in German and wants to reduce prejudices, spread knowledge and deconstruct images. Seats are limited. Advance registration requested.

CrossCulture Internships
Syrian refugees living in Germany can apply for CCP 2016, Closing Date: 10 July 2016

The CrossCulture Internships Programme of the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) calls for applications of Syrian refugees. The programme offers for the first time the opportunity for Syrian refugees in Germany to participate, expanding their professional and socio-political competence through internships in Germany. ZMO cooperates and is a host organisation for these internships.

Job Vacancy: Student Assistant at ZMO
Field: Research coordination, Closing Date: 15 July 2016

ZMO invites applications for a post as student assistant to support its research coordination. Applicants should be fluent in English and German, enrolled at a German university (no PhD students) and should have experiences in literature search and text production. Adavanced Bachelor and Master students can apply; preferably studying in the disciplines of history, social anthropology, political sciences or one of the relevant area studies (East Europe, Eurasia, Middle East). Applications should contain a CV and a short sample of text.

Visiting Research Fellowships
ZMO and BGSMCS are inviting applications for the calendar year 2017, Closing Date: 14 Aug. 2016

Both institutions are interested in attracting outstanding postdoctoral researchers who are engaged in research projects relevant to the research profiles at ZMO and BGSMCS. The call is open to senior researchers and recent postdocs in the humanities and the social sciences. They are invited to apply for a monthly stipend (2500 EUR, covering all expenses including travel and accommodation) and a period of stay that should not exceed two months.
